Aliens.
Flat earth.
Weird political goings on.
Weather.
Conspiracies fly around the earth at lightning speed; some are pretty whacky.
They draw people in, and sometimes there are some really interesting and gripping debates.
People think they have evidence to support their conspiracy, or perhaps they firmly believe in other people.
Narcissists will always be in the thick of it. You will see them circling claims, assumptions and the wildest photos or videos that surface.
The conspiracy theory is of great interest to them – but why?
When I tell you, it’ll all make perfect sense.

Things Get Strange Pretty Quickly
When it comes to conspiracy theories, I’m sure we have heard them all.
Don’t get me wrong, there will be people who quietly believe what they want to believe. If they’re challenged, that’s okay. It’s all part of freedom of choice, right?
Not all conspiracy theorists are narcissists, but narcissists are drawn to conspiracy theories.
And things can get pretty strange pretty quickly.
Anything For a Crowd

Gather round while I tell you a story that will shock you!
Now sit still while I tell you this isn’t a story – it’s real!
The crowd gathers, and the narcissist loves being at the center of it all.
Conspiracy theories are whispered, people watch and listen as their jaws hit the floor.
The narcissist has the crowd right where they want them.
Divide and Fall

Conspiracy theories are known to divide people, and that’s what narcissists love to do best!
It’s partly why they are so drawn to them. They want to see people argue before their eyes.
That simply can’t be possible!
Well, it is very possible!
You’re talking garbage!
No way! I saw it with my own eyes!
Ah. What a great moment for the narcissist.
Watching. Listening. Waiting for the fallout.
7 of the Strange Reasons Narcissists Love to Believe Conspiracy Theories
1. They Are Always Right

Don’t mess with them! They won’t tolerate being wrong, and you will be in trouble if you question them!
Listen, it does not matter how whacky the latest conspiracy theory is – if the narcissist believes it – then it must be true.
They are known to actually get angry when you don’t fall into their belief trap with them.
What they also do with these beliefs is convince you. They want to know they can manipulate your own thoughts to coincide with theirs.
2. They Want To Look Informed

Information is power.
Knowledge is power.
Being a step above the masses is power.
Conspiracy theories grip people, and I am sure we are all guilty of throwing many questions into the universe.
Narcissists take it so much further by drilling out all the information about particular theories of interest to look like they know it all.
They want to know it all.
Why?
So they can look down at everybody else. They love people asking questions.
So, how did you know this?
What made you start looking it up?
Do you really think this could be true?
How sure are you?
Should I be worried?
You see how all these questions could ignite panic in people? How real drama could unfold after just one conversation with the narcissist?
It’s a really dangerous game – but hey – narcissists love danger…
…and games!
3. They Love Convincing People: Power!

The idea that you can be surrounded by a dozen people who don’t believe you, only for them to fall into the trap of actually agreeing with you ten minutes later is one a narcissist lives by.
Their art of convincing others is what makes their eyes light up, their hearts pump, and their smiles so big.
Of course, narcissists want you to agree with them at all times. They love to hear and see you nodding, doing, saying and thinking the same as them.
What does that equate to?
Power!
The more of a following, the more they will feel like a leader. The person who is in charge.
The one people send the links and ideas to. The one that people ask all the questions to…
…Oh please tell me, oh wise one!
Doesn’t it make you sick?
4. Paranoia

Narcissists are paranoid people, constantly looking over their shoulder to see if anybody has figured them out yet.
They will act in ways that both shock and surprise you, and conspiracy theories are included in that.
It’s not enough just to accept that not everything in this world is as it seems (as I’m sure we all agree), but to go steps deeper and really convince themselves of some of the most ridiculous theories to be true.
Narcissists hate criticism, and being mocked will draw out that paranoia. Where else can it go if it isn’t displaced among the latest alien invasion theories?!
5. Wanting to be Unique

Oh, I totally believe this.
This has to be true, look at all this evidence!
Narcissists love to be different. They want to be unlike everybody else, and set their own standards.
Believing in conspiracy theories is how they come to be portrayed as some kind of bespoke human.
6. Need to Control a Narrative

Think about this:
Narcissists always have to be right.
They can only do this if they sell a story that can convince others to believe them. Even when that story is so far from the truth that you can’t even see the truth.
I know what I’m talking about, and I know best. I know exactly what’s going on and have a very convincing explanation.
This works both ways when the media may be spinning a certain narrative that the narcissist doesn’t agree with, and will go to great lengths to explain why their version is the right one.
7. To Antagonize

“Oh, Alex. Come on. Narcissists surely don’t like antagonizing people, do they?”
If you have to ask me that by now, then I encourage you back to the beginning of my blogs and start again.
Because… Drum roll…. Yes! They thrive when they see you wound up. When you are losing your mind over how frustrating they are, that’s when they’re at their happiest.
So it comes as no major surprise that narcissists love to wind you up when it comes to conspiracy theories.
The more they delve and divulge all the stories they’ve heard or read, the more they expect you to completely boil over, like a pot left on the trove for too long.
